Arianna McKinney, Hollywood Group's July Kid of the Month

Arianna likes acting as much as most children like playing in the park, riding their bike, or going for a swim! The world of make-believe is to her, what I think most kids want it to be, fun!

Acting is anything but a chore for her. She truly loves it, and she truly loves her acting coaches. Her desire to not only be good, but be the best is not surprising to her mom and dad. Everything she does is with a “can-do” spirit and it very much reflects in the way she acts, gets along with other kids, and listens to instruction by her acting coaches. She glows when she talks about acting. It’s something that has always been a part of her life and her parents believe will always be a part of her life. Her other major attribute comes from her desire to learn. Many kids her age want to play video games or watch SpongeBob non-stop. That’s ok, but that’s not her. She would rather read a book and figure out why the stars are in the sky, or why it gets cold during winter.

Arianna’s interest in being in front of the camera began at a very early age. She was on TV, in fact, the day she was born! Her mom was a TV Meteorologist and her dad was a News Anchor at the time. The news station sent the TV crew over to get pictures of her and she was on the air just a few hours later. So she has spent an unusual amount of time in TV news studios and learned that it was essential to be quiet when her parents went on the air. She has “gotten” the whole studio thing for a very long time.

She has always wanted to put on wigs and wear dress up clothes and would beg her mom and dad to take her picture. This all started at the tender age of 2! Being shy is not a part of her game! By the time she hit the age of 7, Mom and Dad decided to let her explore her interest in acting. Arianna auditioned for The Hollywood Group in San Diego and signed with her Talent Coordinator, Cara, a short while later.

After finishing the wonderful classes offered by the Hollywood Group from Little Red Door and others, Arianna decided this was not only something she wanted to continue, she wanted to do more. It was an easy decision to sign her up for ongoing acting classes with Constance Tillotson at Sterling Studios. Hands down, Constance’s energy, love and passion for her students have made this a wonderful experience for Arianna! At her very first showcase in September 2008, 5 of the 6 agents had an interest in her and we decided to sign with ABA Talent Agency in Beverly Hills.

Her first audition came a few months later and she got the callback! She has a great energy and passion for acting and it shows in each audition. The comments we get from casting directors is that she is fun, friendly and genuine. Arianna booked the lead role in a short SAG film called “Decay” set to be released to film festivals throughout the U.S. this winter. Although the hours were grueling, she never complained and had a good time with the role. We are hoping it gets picked up for distribution!

She has also booked a national commercial for Food Lion, a grocery store chain, and a regional commercial for California Union Bank. Most recently, she booked the lead in a SAG film set to begin filming in August called “Certain Liberty.”

Arianna has been picture-picked by Mattel and Wal-Mart and has done background work on Swingtown, Criminal Minds and Worst Week.

Every experience we have had with The Hollywood Group has been great! From the initial audition and the interview with the Coordinator, to our ongoing classes with Sterling Studios and auditions through ABA, it’s been simple. The care The Hollywood Group has for the kids shows, and it’s nice for the kids to be able to be trained properly but without the pressure of doing it quickly. We went through the classes and showcase at our own pace so that Arianna could have fun and still be a kid!

Thank you for everything you’ve done for us!

Melissa Lozano, June 2009 Kid of the Month

The Hollywood Group is proud to announce Melissa Lozano, as our June Kid of the Month.

Melissa first showed interest in acting and singing when she was only four years old. However, her dreams didn’t really materialize until a few months ago when Melissa and her parents were approached by Kidz in Media representative Linda Bowie at the Ontario Mills Mall.

The thirteen year-old from Riverside began life as a Hollywood Group member last September. "I would like to thank Marla Alexander for discovering the potential and talent of our daughter Melissa," states proud parent Miguel Lozano.

Melissa completed the basic workshops shortly after signing up with The Hollywood Group. By November 2008, she was ready to take the next step and meet the VIPs. The Talent Showcase not only went well, but she received a lot of praise from many agents. One in particular, Heather Baldwin of Youth Talent Connection, was more than just casually impressed. She wanted to sign Melissa, and that’s exactly what happened. Needless to say, the Lozano family was tickled to death. "Signing up our daughter with Marla Alexander at The Hollywood Group, and with Heather Baldwin at Youth Talent Connection, have been two of the best decisions we’ve ever made," exclaims Miguel Lozano.

Constance Tillotson has played a pivotal role in the maturation of young Melissa. She meets with Constance and other young actors weekly for ongoing training. Melissa has worked so hard, and has accomplished so much. She is training often, and booking often.

Melissa’s first job was as background talent in the upcoming comedy feature The Hangover, directed by Todd Phillips. Three months later, she booked her very first audition for a bilingual Peter Piper Pizza commercial that would air in the U.S. and Mexico. It was a huge surprise when she found out she booked it! Little did she know, this would be the beginning of her booking success. Six weeks later, Melissa booked her second commercial for Hasbro.

"Most actors need more prep time before they’re up and running. Melissa has been exposed to so many fantastic sources at a young age; couple that with her strong will and desire to perform and it makes for a winning combination," says John Kasten, Hollywood Group Talent Coordinator. In a mere nine months, Melissa has accomplished so much...more than most would ever dream of in triple that time. Congratulations on your achievements Melissa, it’s an honor well deserved!
